Teach English in China
My name is Bryan, but my Chinese name is Wu Shi or just Mr.Wu. I am currently a Senior at Flowery Branch High School, home of the Falcons. I love learning languages; I can speak Spanish proficiently and enough Mandarin to hold a long conversation with someone who knows no English. I also am learning some Korean, Japanese, and Arabic, but those three are still at very basic levels. Education is very interesting to me as well; I really enjoy tutoring and teaching. Books also play a large role in my life; I have been in Book Club for three years; this year I am president and hope to lead the team to victory at the 2015 Tome Society Book Bowl. I love school and tend to get easily bored with out education, that being the reason why on breaks or holidays you can find me reading a book or continuing my language learning.
This year I am in the Honors Mentorship Program(HMP) and managed to land a mentorship at World Language Academy(WLA) teaching Chinese to 6th graders, a perfect internship for me. WLA mostly focuses of teaching its students Chinese and Spanish at a high school level while also teaching their other middle school courses. I intern with the lovely Mrs.Ye. She gives me the great opportunity to teach the students everyday and contribute to our lesson plan. Having the opportunity to teach the students gives me the chance to bond with the students and see what methods of teaching work for them. Though my job at this internship is to teach, I also learn a lot about teaching. When I teach, I use games and a lot of practice to help them understand the language; also, to make them find what they are learning even more fun, I give them of my personal experiences with the language and culture, telling them stories and showing them cool music videos.
I am college bound and hope major in Chinese and English. My dream job is to be a foreign language teacher in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, and/or Australia at a high school or college level. HMP has given me a great advantage on this long journey ahead of me.
